Paper Trail
Paper Trail examines how experience leaves lasting imprints. A large-scale assemblage of crinkled blank paper, bound in an abstracted book form and supported by a custom wooden stand, the work holds both the weight of documentation and the instability of memory.
Wan-Yi reflects, “This sculpture responds to my recognition of events, experiences, and actions in life. Whether I am aware or not, they all have left marks in me.”
The title plays on the idea of a “paper trail”—a record of decisions, actions, and beliefs. But here, the crumpled surfaces hold the traces of both intention and accident, much like experience itself. Once creased, paper never fully returns to its original state, mirroring how life shapes us in ways that cannot be undone. The work invites reflection on what remains, what fades, and how we carry the imprints of what we live through.
